The Indian Premier League has continued to thrill us when it returned to our screens earlier this year. There was so much disappointment when play was suspended in May 2021 due to Covid 19. A Sunrisers Hyderabad player and two players from Kolkata Knight Riders tested positive and it was unanimously decided to postpone the season. The remaining matches were played in UAE in September and October.
This unusual and disrupted season was far from conventional and some new hotshot players have been getting themselves noticed. Some of them have become household names but there are others to watch out for in next year’s season. Here we are going to take a look at the rising stars of the Indian Premier League. Any of them might be considered a good option to bet on: whether you go for most runs or most wickets, you can see a selection of odds on the best betting sites in Bangladesh.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
The end of the season saw Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings crowned the emerging player of the season after he scored 635 runs. His season average was 45.35 and he won The Orange Cap. He became a member of Team India, the international cricket team, in July 2021. Unsurprisingly he was retained by his team and rewarded a 30-fold pay increase. Born in 1997 this young man has many playing years ahead of him. He would certainly be a favourite to put money on.
Venkatesh Iver
Born in 1994, and playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (runners up to Chennai Super Kings in 2021) he was recognized as the CRED Power Player of the season. He made his T20 debut back in 2015 against the Railway Cricket Team. He joined Kolkata Knight Riders in February of 2021 and on 23rd September scored his first maiden IPL 50 against Mumbai Indians. Iver’s prowess is not only as a batsman however and he was part of the India T20 World Cup Squad as a bowler. His expert play has been rewarded with a forty-fold pay rise so he must be seen as a great asset to his team
Abdul Samad
This 20-year-old plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad as both batsman and bowler. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-handed leg-spin bowler. He made his IPL debut on September 29th, 2020. His team obviously sees a great deal of promise in him as he has been retained for the 2022 season and sees a 20-fold pay rise. They are expecting him to get the team even further in the league, so he is a young man to watch out for.
Umran Malik
Umran Malik was also retained with a twenty-fold pay rise by Sunrisers Hyderabad. In April 2021 he was selected as a net bowler in the IPL. He came to media attention this season in the match against Royal Challengers of Bangalore when he bowled five consecutive balls at over 150 miles an hour. His super-fast bowling saw the 22-year-old picked for the 2021 ICC T20 team. He made his international debut on 23rd November against South Africa.
Arshdeep Singh
Born in 1999, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab back in the Indian Premier League auctions in 2018. He has been retained for the 2022 season with a twenty-fold rise. In 2019, he finished as the team’s second-highest wicket-taker. He made his first-class debut for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy and was included in India’s main T20 squad in June 2021.
Also, watch out for Chetnan Sakariya, Liam Livingstone, Riley Meredith, and Sharukh Khan who may be lesser-known but are tipped to be big names of cricket in the near future.
